It was a place for family and belonging. It is a place rich with history.
My grandfather was well respected in the community. Like many black men of that era he worked on the railroad. He was a deacon at the now historic St John Missionary Baptist church. At that time the church was probably Houston's first "Mega" church. What's fascinating about this house is how my grandparents acquired it, all the many lessons learned within it's walls, and the unbelievable amount of love and support obtained from the family and friends within it's walls.
The subdivision was developed by a white man who, by the way, contracted my grandfather to prepare his taxes. The owner of the house lived in this house as the neighborhood was developed. After the completion, the owner sold his home to my grandparents.
The house was filled with music, love, education, encouragement, strength and tenacity, courage and fun. So much of what I know I learned within these walls. The Phaedra World Tour was created to inspire, encourage and to have the open communication we so desperatly need in our world today. Women empowering women through total experiences that affect everyone in our world.
